Sinetemba Youth Centre

Sinetemba operates as a day care centre in the Roman Catholic church hall in Khayalethu South, Knysna. This venue is leased for ten years on a pro bona basis. Two daily meals are provided for the children, plus a weekly activity program including literacy, numeracy, pottery, card making, cookery, gardening, drumming, sport, life-skills as well as recreational outings.

Mad-About-Art

Mad-ABOUT Art provides critical HIV-AIDS education and offers Youth Empowerment programs. Art based activities are facilitated to educate local youth about HIV-Aids as well as art therapy is facilitated for youth having to cope with the reality of Aids personally or at home. This is a vibrant community centre situated on the edge of MTO plantations and accommodates a crèche, the Women of Vision Craft centre and a library.

Judah Square Rastafarian Community

The Judah Square Rastafarian village was founded in 1993, and is the largest Rastafarian community in South Africa. You can do a walking tour of the community and overnight in the Rastafarian community. You also have the opportunity to go on a forest walk with a Rastafarian tourist guide.

Knysna Arts Organisation

This is a dance group which focuses on the development of young people in the local community. Performing different genres in music and drama. They are available for events but normally perform at the BMW-Love Life Centre.

Noelene's Soup Kitchen

This is a busy soup kitchen in the Hornlee area, which supply a warm meal to the unemployed and the needy. Noelene also offer temporary shelter to abused woman at her home. Visitors to the soup kitchen is welcome and donations towards feeding the needy is always welcome.

BMW Love Life Centre

BMW joins forces with loveLife in a drive for HIV prevention. The BMW loveLife Y-Centre in Knysna opens on Thursday 8 November 2007, making it the 17th loveLife Y-Centre in South Africa. This multi-purpose facility is a partnership between the Knysna Municipality and loveLife, sponsored by the BMW Group. loveLife Y-Centres are health, sports and recreational facilities for young people and serve as regional hubs for loveLife outreach programmes. In addition to loveLife programmes, the centre also hosts Umsobomvu Youth Fund advisory facility for youth entrepreneurship development in the area.

Knysna is the perfect South African destination for us to study an amazing diversity of geographical, environmental and sustainable development themes, made possible with the help and enthusiasm of Glendyrr Fick and the staff at the Knysna Tourism Office.

Italian Slow Food delegation visits Sedgefield

A delegation from the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Bra, Italy, visited the area during February because of our, and the food producers in our area’s commitment to the ideals of the Slow Food movement. The university also wanted to learn more about our markets and the wide range of products produced in the Garden Route.
